Sunday, June 25th we bid a fond and bittersweet farewell to three beloved colleagues and ministry leaders: Zelda Kennedy, Cathy Maginn and James Walker. As they move forward into new chapters of their lives, here at All Saints Church the work and witness goes on apace — with some staffing changes and additions!
Jenny Wong joins the All Saints staff as our Interim Choirmaster on August 1. Jenny will be with us from until June 30, 2018 while we engage in a thorough search for our permanent Director of Music and will conduct both Canterbury and Coventry choirs. An exceptionally gifted artist we are thrilled to be welcoming Jenny to All Saints and look forward to the work we will do together in the year ahead! More info on Jenny here.
With the retirement of Cathy Maginn, we also welcome a new comptroller, Zach DeJohnette. Zach was born and raised in Pasadena. He graduated from Don Boscoe Technical Institute in Rosemead, a Catholic all-male high school, in 1995. “I fell into accounting — worked at Von’s in the deli for a while, and when they cut my hours I went to work for a bank as a teller.” Zach then worked in several banks and credit unions, including six years at First Entertainment in Hollywood.
What excites him about his job? “It’s a challenge, with a lot of new experiences. Working at a church is a completely different vibe than other places I’ve worked,” Zach said. “There’s always some anxiety that comes with a new job, but it’s been my experience that when you’re surrounded by good people who want you to succeed, you succeed. The good Lord put me where I’m supposed to be.”
While the clergy search committee works to fill our two open positions — Associate Rector (with primary responsibility for Congregational Development) and Senior Associate for Pastoral Care/Healing and Health – some staff changes have been implemented to cover the ongoing work in those two critical ministry areas.
Jamie Hebert, Assistant to Giving and Congregational Development, will temporarily assume greater program responsibilities. These responsibilities will include working with our Parish Life Groups (20/30’s, LGBTQ Ministry, Women’s Community, Men’s Community, Fiction Fun, Senior Saints, and Parish Celebrations) and managing both the New Member Class and the Welcome Ministry. This transition will allow Jim Loduha to focus on his role as Senior Director of Development and Giving. Jamie brings to this work not only his long history of service here at All Saints but his gifts as an organizer, producer and creative dynamo. Jamie can be contacted at email@example.com or 626.583.2765.
Meanwhile Pastoral Care will be in the very capable hands of Sally Howard and Ana Camacho. Sally will be shifting her schedule to serve ¾ time in July and August, and Ana has years of experience and knowledge as the long-time administrative assistant for the Pastoral Care Office. During July, Susan Russell will be the full-time priest on campus and Mike Kinman will be here during August. Lay Eucharistic Visitors, Lay Counselors and the members of the Health & Healing team will continue to exercise their ministries as together we work to make Christ’s healing love present in our congregation and community. Any questions can be directed to the pastoral care office: 626.583.2737.
The search committees for the open clergy positions and for the Director of Music have begun their initial meetings and will provide updates as their work progresses. Do keep them and their important work in your prayers as we continue together in the work of bearing the light of God’s love, justice and compassion into the world.
