First, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, a dazzling, joyful showpiece featuring the same melody that eventually became the iconic “Ode to Joy” from the 9th Symphony. Our own Grace Chung takes the piano. We have never performed anything like this at All Saints — prepare to be swept away! Then, Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem (“Grant Us Peace”) — a searingly beautiful cantata written as the world was tumbling toward World War II. Its longing for peace feels as urgent today as ever.
