Intersectional Resistance: Reproductive Justice

Sunday, January 22

Reconciliation is holy work. Resistance is too. When the agendas of the president-elect and the new Congress scapegoat people of color and Muslims, deprive our fellow citizens of control over their lives, desecrate God’s creation or enrich the wealthy at the expense of the poor, we must oppose them. This is not a partisan political statement; it is a confession of faith.”
— The Reverend Gay Clark Jennings, President of the House of Deputies

One of our responses to the new paradigm of leadership in our nation will be a series of Intersectional Resistance Forums — focused this week on Reproductive Justice. Join us for a conversation with Planned Parenthood’s Sheri Bonner and Susan Russell on the challenges facing reproductive justice in general and Planned Parenthood in specific … and how we can support resistance to the oppression and marginalization of any member of the human family.

Sheri Bonner [pictured above] has been a part of the Planned Parenthood family for over 25 years and has served as President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley since 2004. Under Sheri’s leadership it has grown from a single health center in Pasadena to four health centers across the San Gabriel Valley. In 2015, Sheri was selected by her peers to receive the Ruth Green Award, which is presented annually to a CEO for their outstanding contributions to the Planned Parenthood mission – it is the highest recognition given in the Planned Parenthood world. Born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area, Sheri received her degree from Towson University in Baltimore and lives in Pasadena with her husband and son … and is a member of All Saints Church.

Susan Russell serves on the National Planned Parenthood Clergy Advocacy Board — an interfaith body committed to the belief that clergy have a special responsibility to bear witness in support of reproductive rights so that the public and their elected representatives may understand the theological and moral basis for reproductive rights.
