Setting the Welcome Table: Lessons in Radical Hospitality

The hospitality industry’s primary goal is customer satisfaction and making people feel valued. From the Ritz Carlton to Disney; from Nordstrom’s to Starbuck’s – these organizations understand human motivation and satisfaction – and have a great deal to teach us about radical welcome.

The Reverend Canon John W. Kilgore, M.D. has studied these organizations and their training processes and works to bring those lessons to the fore for the benefit of the church . With Jesus as the supreme model for hospitality, this session will review the scriptural basis, the tenets of corporate American hospitality, and attempt to integrate them into practical lessons for making our churches more hospitable.

John has thirty years’ experience as a clinical cardiologist and leader in a variety of healthcare settings, including chief of staff, builder of several large and successful healthcare teams, and chief cardiologist over five hospitals in a major mid-west Catholic health care system. He has significant leadership training (Harvard, Ritz Carlton, and Disney Institute leadership courses) and extensive real world experience.

“Hospitality is at the core of Christianity, just look at Jesus at the table …” he says.

John and Mike have been acquainted since the early days of Mike’s ministry in the 1990’s and they walked part of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in Spain together last year. We are delighted to welcome John to All Saints and look forward to the work we will do together!
